A judge sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail today after ruling she violated probation in a 2007 drug case by failing to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes. Lohan burst into tears after the sentencing by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel.

Lohan was not required to immediately surrender but will have to turn herself in on July 20. She will also be required to enter an inpatient rehab program after her release from jail.

The ruling came during a hearing set for the Mean Girls star after she missed a court date in May. She has been required to wear an ankle alcohol monitor since then. The monitor issued an alert after Lohan attended the MTV Movie Awards and after-parties. Prosecutors had hoped to introduce reports from the monitor to show the actress also had violated a court order against drinking imposed as part of her probation. Revel said during the ongoing hearing the device showed Lohan’s blood-alcohol content was 0.03.

However, Revel said she would not consider whether the actress actually consumed alcohol last month after attending the MTV Movie Awards. Lohan has denied drinking that night. The judge said she would honor what she told lawyers for both sides in a closed meeting last month and not allow the negative report to be used at the hearing. Revel said she would only consider whether the actress failed to complete the required number of alcohol education courses on time.

Cheryl Marshall, a co-founder of the education program, testified she did not report Lohan to be in violation of the judge’s order when the actress missed nine meetings then made up an undisclosed number. Marshall said she was aware the program received a phone call from the judge in December saying she wanted Lohan to attend classes each week. But Marshall added she never got a paper copy of the order and did not consider it active. Marshall’s program fought against providing records and testimony at the hearing, but Revel ruled the information was necessary.

Lohan’s attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said she hadn’t prepared to defend against the alcohol monitor report because the judge had said it would only affect bail for the actress. Revel doubled Lohan’s bail to $200,000 after learning of the alert last month. Lohan arrived about 10 minutes early for the hearing at the Beverly Hills courthouse. Lohan’s father Michael and younger sister also attended. The hearing immediately hit a snag as Chapman Holley and prosecutor Danette Meyers sparred on what evidence could be introduced.

Lohan spent 84 minutes in jail in 2007 after she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine and no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent and one count of reckless driving. The plea came after a pair of high-profile arrests earlier that year. Lohan was sentenced to three years of probation but had to ask for a yearlong extension in October after she failed to complete her alcohol-education courses on time.

It took a few weeks, but actress Lindsay Lohan found herself in trouble again — this time over the alcohol-detection bracelet a judge ordered her to wear. According to sources, the device’s alarm sounded Sunday, the night Lohan was attending the MTV Movie Awards. It’s unclear why the device went off. Typically, the alarm sounds when the bracelet is tampered with or if the person wearing it consumes alcohol.

But it was enough for a Beverly Hills judge to haul prosecutors and Lohan’s attorneys into court Wednesday afternoon for a closed session. Judge Marsha Revel issued an arrest warrant for Lohan, 23. To avoid being detained, Lohan posted $200,000 bail. Revel did not provide any specifics other than to say Lohan violated a court order not to consume alcohol and to wear an alcohol-detection device.

According to sources close to the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing, the alcohol-monitoring device on Lohan’s ankle sent a report indicating the presence of alcohol late Sunday or early Monday after the MTV Movie Awards. Lohan attended the awards and an after-party, wearing pants to cover the device.

Her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said in a statement that the monitoring device detected a small amount of alcohol, but that she could not verify its accuracy. In court, however, the judge did not specify how Lohan violated the court order issued May 24 other than to say it was after she received an adverse report from the alcohol-detection ankle bracelet.

Lohan was not present in court. She issued several denials on her Twitter account that she had done anything wrong, and said the bracelet, known as a SCRAM, or Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, should have detected nothing. ”My scram wasn’t set off-it’s physically impossible considering I’ve nothing for it to go off-All of these false reports are absolutely wrong,” Lohan, 23, said in Tweet yesterday. The ankle monitor issues an alert when it is tampered with or when the person wearing it drinks alcohol. The SCRAM device checks for traces of alcohol in the air above the user’s skin.

Lindsay Lohan walked out of the L.A. County Courthouse yesterday sporting a brand new fashion accessory — her court-ordered SCRAM bracelet. This isn’t something she is unfamiliar with, however it is now smaller, lighter, and sleeker.

Lindsay was put into her new SCRAM bracelet right inside the courthouse, where Judge Marsha Revel also informed Lohan that she would be meeting with a probation officer on Thursday.

Until the judge decides she can remove it — LiLo must wear the device at all times … even in the shower.

Lindsay Lohan is coming home to a litany of legal woes after a few breezy days at the Cannes Film Festival, where she attended various events to promote her Linda Lovelace film and partied into the wee hours on the day she was supposed to be in court in Beverly Hills. The 23-year-old actress was to be arrested upon her return to Los Angeles for missing a mandatory court hearing, but a judge recalled the warrant late Thursday after Lohan posted bail.

Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel set bail at $100,000, revoked Lohan’s probation and imposed strict new conditions on the star, who was due in court for a progress report on her probation stemming from two arrests in 2007. The judge ordered that Lohan be prohibited from drinking any alcohol, required to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet and submit to random weekly drug testing.

Blame it on mother nature, but this girl is going to eventually learn, one way or the other. I told her it was a stupid idea to go, but she must have missed my Twitter message.

Lindsay is in Cannes to promote her upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic.  She must appear in court Thursday for her probation progress report hearing — she’s required to show because she has only completed 10 of the 13 required alcohol ed classes (she snuck in a class last Friday).

But sources say she can’t get a flight back to the States because of the volcanic ash from Iceland. Airports all over Europe are jam-packed and it’s impossible to get a seat. Here’s the tragic humor - if Lindsay doesn’t show, the judge will issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

You’re killing me, Lindsay, but at least you’re optimistic regarding your future jail time!

Just when I thought Lindsay Lohan was starting to turn her life around, here she goes, trying to have herself put into jail.

Instead of attending her alcohol education classes, Lindsay Lohan is going to Cannes. She needs to complete four more classes within the next few days, or the judge will add a warrant for her arrest. I’m hoping she just stays in France at this point.

She is claiming that the reason she is attending the film festival is to promote her film about Linda Lovelace. Instead of finishing off her thirteen required court-ordered classes, she’s partying, traveling, etc. No responsibility. I’m ashamed..

Lindsay Lohan’s replacement has been named for the movie role she lost because she wasn’t considered “bankable” … and, ironically, you probably don’t recognize her.

LiLo’s character in “The Other Side” will now be played by Olivia Thirlby — who’s only appeared in a few movies, including “Juno” (one of my favorite movies of all time!) and “The Wackness.”

I’m actually excited to see this now. She was awesome in Juno!

Lindsay Lohan is locked in a bitter feud with rival starlet Avril Lavigne after the pop star publicly branded Lohan a “loser.” Lohan and Lavigne had a huge fight in front of fellow guests at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont. It ended with Lohan desperately trying to get her rival thrown out.

An eyewitness stated, “Avril was at a table with friends just over a week ago including her boyfriend, Brody Jenner, when Lindsay came over to say hi.”

But as soon as she approached, Avril launched at her and said: ‘Get the hell out of my face, you are fake, you are a loser. I don’t like false people. Stay away from me and my friends.”"

Lindsay was furious and screamed back: ‘Don’t threaten me!’ She then stormed off to security and tried to get them to kick Avril out. They refused to force Avril to leave. Lindsay eventually stormed off.

This continues a less-than-stellar news week for Lohan. On Monday, E*Trade — who Lohan sued for using a “milkaholic” baby named Lindsay in their commercial — filed a massive heap of court documents to argue that Lohan lives in California, and not New York as her lawsuit stated.
