San Francisco packs a victory in Green Bay

Who said the San Francisco 49ers did not have the offensive power to outscore the Green Bay Packers? Critics, I tell ya. The Pack abandoned the running game midway through, and left their fate with Aaron Rodgers. The 49ers had a solid ground game with Frank Gore, yet still found room for Alex Smith to complete touchdowns to Randy Moss and Vernon Davis.

Heck, even kicker David Akers contributed with an NFL record-tying 63-yard field goal, bouncing off from the cross-bar but in nonetheless. It’s hard to kick outdoors, or in places that will soon see snow on the field; in this case, Wisconsin. Akers with 3 field goals, Mason Crosby with none.

The last time the 49ers played an official game, they had 1 pass for 3 yards to a wide receiver. Moss was one of three receivers with at least 4 catches, so I’m sure the passing game is figured out now. I’ll even give Michael Crabtree some credit, having 7 (the most of the day) receptions.

Alex went 20-for-26 with 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns; Aaron also had a pair of touchdowns but also threw an interception with his 30-for-44 day. I’d have to comment that, while Alex Smith didn’t throw as many times or for as much yardage, he bested one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league.

Was this a preview of a possible NFC Championship game? If it is, the 49ers have locked a tiebreak victory by winning today, and would host the game in San Francisco in January.

Next week? Sunday night football, Jim Harbaugh against Jim Schwartz. Do we remember the famous handshake last year?

RIP Junior Seau

Approximately a year-and-a-half ago I posted about Junior Seau attempting to commit suicide. Yesterday he shot himself in the chest to end his life.

Last year 50-year-old former Chicago Bears player Dave Duerson was found dead in his Florida home last year from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Before his death, he texted his family asking for his brain to be used for research (hence why he shot himself in the chest). Months later, researcher neurologists at Boston University confirmed Duerson had suffered from a neurodegenerative disease linked to concussions. It’s likely Junior Seau shot himself in the chest for the same reason.  Continue reading “RIP Junior Seau” RIP Junior Seau

Why Colin Kaepernick should start and Alex Smith should walk

While I’m not stating the following post WILL happen, I do believe there remains the possibility of it becoming reality, not matter how slim.

The 49ers moved up in the 2nd round of last year’s draft to select Colin Kaepernick with the 36th (2nd/4th) overall selection. He is a West Coast-type athlete from the University of Nevada, leading his team to a 13-win season as a senior and one of a nearly empty list of college quarterbacks who have thrown for 10,000 yards and rushed for 4,000 in their college careers. Additionally, he became only the third quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. Colin was drafted 1 pick behind Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Continue reading “Why Colin Kaepernick should start and Alex Smith should walk” Why Colin Kaepernick shou…
