Super Bowl 2007, part II – Patriots versus Giants

      Posted by Jason Zajdel

Super Bowl 2007, part II Patriots versus Giants NFC championship Giants beat 49ersThe New York Giants didn’t beat the San Francisco 49ers so much as the 49ers just beat themselves. Two lost kick/punt returns by Kyle Williams (who I can reasonably see as not making the 53-man roster next year now, despite his fill-in receiving statistics this season) combined with having zero third-down conversions after twelve tries. Yes, the 49ers were 0-for-12 on 3rd down.

How do the 49ers normally win football games? The +28 turnover margin got them to the playoffs. They had no fumble recoveries or interceptions tonight. Notch that as a -2 turnover stat.

The Giants beat the Green Bay Packers last week in overtime with a field goal, and they did it to the 49ers this week in a similar fashion. I don’t feel as if the New England Patriots will be as forgiving two weeks from now, in the Super Bowl. Hey, at least Eli can say hi to his brother’s stadium in Indianapolis.

    Top NFL Players week 17

Top NFL Players week 17 Matt Flynn PackersWhile there was only one mystery to be had on playoff positioning (New York Giants making it, the Dallas Cowboys going home) there were plenty of surprises with the performances of each top player this week. I was able to win my second money league’s super bowl, thanks to my opponent’s Aaron Rodgers resting up for next weekend.

Now that we’re done with the regular season of 2011, enjoy the playoffs, as all 3 of my favorite teams are in it this year.  Read the rest of this entry » Top NFL Players week 17

Top NFL players week 12 Drew BreesMost fantasy football leagues are down to the last week, and your favorite NFL team has  just 4 more games to play this season.

Will the Saints QB break Dan Marino’s record?

    Will the Packers go undefeated?

Will the 49ers not blow it at the end?

Will the Colts win the Suck for Andrew Luck contest?

You’re less than a month away from all the answers, my friends.  Read the rest of this entry » Top NFL players week 12

    Top NFL players week 8

Top NFL players week 8 LeSean McCoy Eagles Cowboys 2A week full of surprises presented itself over the past few days. The top quarter backs and running backs keep shifting, while Megatron stays atop the wide receiver list.

The Saints were blown out by the Rams, making back-to-back puzzling losses by the 2008 Super Bowl winners to the horrible NFC-West division.

The 49ers won again, making them 6-1 for the first time since the late 90s and are for-sure playoff bound. I was happy to attend the beating of the Browns on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions stop their slip of losses by winning over the poor Broncos. And, on to the next one:  Read the rest of this entry » Top NFL players week 8

Top NFL players – week 3

Top NFL players – week 3 Torrey Smith RavensWho is going to be the hottest free agency pickup on the market this week? Yeah, the guy to my right, Torrey Smith, the Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver taking the place of Lee Evans for the week. This is shocking because not only did he tie Wes Welker for the top receiver position of this past weekend, but they both led all other fantasy players in points for their owners. Surprise? Yeah, a bit.

Another wideout makes the list this week in New York, Victor Cruz replacing Mario Manningham. Those two make the shock factor surreal.

As I only do Quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers on this list, I want to make a special shout-out to two players. One of my all-time favorites, Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, grabbing 85 yards and 3 touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers (26 points) and… yes, the Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey for scoring 6-for-6 on field goals last night, netting him 21 fantasy points.

Without further ado, I present week 3′s top players:  Read the rest of this entry » Top NFL players – week …

    Manning Bowl II

      Posted by Jason Zajdel

Manning Bowl II manningbros 882081gm aAlso coming this weekend, Eli leads the Giants against his big brother and the Colts, for only the second time — the first was in 2006.

The Manning clan, including father Archie, a former-Pro Bowl quarterback with the New Orleans Saints, poke fun at each other in a humorous commercial to promote a game expected to produce monstrous television ratings.

“I think you have to try and enjoy it and understand it is special to look over there and see your big brother on the sidelines,” Eli told reporters. “You have to enjoy these times and take advantage of it and remember it. “We really just don’t know how many times it’s going to happen. It’s rare and I’m trying to appreciate it.”

When the brothers met in the first Manning Bowl in 2006, Peyton, who is five years older, was already well on his way to a Hall of Fame career while Eli was just beginning his third season and still undergoing intense on the job training. Peyton and the Colts won that game 26-21 but four years later much has changed.

Since that night at Giants Stadium, both Eli and Peyton have gone on to lead their teams to Super Bowl titles and Super Bowl most valuable player awards. Both are former first-overall draft picks and have been to the Pro Bowl.
