As if the purple-and-yellow didn’t have enough bad veteran play with Brett Favre, here they go again. The Washington Redskins have reportedly agreed to the framework of a trade that would send quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Minnesota Vikings. The Redskins would receive a sixth-round draft pick in 2012 and a conditional pick in 2013 in return. However, the deal is contingent on McNabb restructuring his contract.

The Vikings had long been mentioned as the team with the most interest in McNabb, and the quarterback also had a desire to play for Minnesota, which runs a system that is very similar to the one he ran for 11 seasons in Philadelphia. But it was always believed that in order for a trade to be completed, the quarterback would have to agree to rework his contract. The Redskins last November gave the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback a contract extension that included a $3.5 million bonus for the 2010 season. They would have had to pay him a $10 million bonus if he still was on the roster the day after the first game of the 2011 season.  Read the rest of this entry » From Favre to McNabb, the...

Who will be throwing the ball for the Niners next season? Jmontana

With questions regarding who will be under center next season for the 49ers, I decided to hear your thoughts.

San Francisco has announced that the next starting quarterback is not on the roster. Alex and Troy Smith have not solidified their right to be a starter next season, and the 49ers have the 7th overall pick in the 2011 draft with a new head coach out of a successful college coaching career.

Vernon Davis stated he would not mind catching balls from either Kyle Orton (being replaced by Tim Tebow on the Broncos) or Donovan McNabb (being replaced by anybody on the Redskins). With Michael Vick going off the hinges this year, Kevin Kolb is available from the Eagles. Then there’s the possibility of Matt Leinart, released by the Cardinals, having a chance.

What do you think? Vote below — you can select up to two options.

Who will be the next 49er Quarterback? (select two)

    • Kevin Kolb from the Eagles (36%, 10 Votes)
    • They'll take someone from the draft (32%, 9 Votes)
    • They'll end up staying with a Smith (Alex or Troy) (32%, 9 Votes)
    • Donovan McNabb from the Redskins (14%, 4 Votes)
    • Kyle Orton from the Broncos (7%, 2 Votes)
    • Matt Leinart from the Cardinals (7%, 2 Votes)

    Total Voters: 28

  • 49 isn’t just an NFL team name

    49 isnt just an NFL team name screenshot 2011 01 05 08.36.10It’s Brett Favre’s age! Well, almost…

Also available next year in the senior citizen department: Donovan McNabb.

Of course, there are plenty of fresh college QBs available at 7th overall pick this year. =)

  • The Battle of McVick!

The Battle of McVick! nfl u vickmcnabb 576This. Sunday. Donovan McNabb heads back to where he called home for his entire career – the home of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The best part? He rallied so hard to get Michael Vick on the team, who is now the starter of the team which Andy Reid decided would go in another direction, away from one of the best quarterbacks of the past decade.

These two have a lot of similarities. They are superb athletes with rare physical gifts for the position. They are getting another opportunity to lead a second franchise. And they have been quite inconsistent with aspects of their games.

Before we break down these two, a few observations: Vick has done fine work behind center in 2010. But he has done it against some of the worst secondaries (Detroit and Jacksonville) in the league and against a Green Bay team that did not prepare for his unique skill set. Not to mention that Green Bay’s pass defense could be its biggest weakness. Also, while both offensive lines have plenty of questions, clearly Vick has better weapons surrounding him than McNabb has in Washington. However, McNabb is returning to Philadelphia. He took the Eagles to five conference championship games, a Super Bowl appearance and had zero felonies.

Let the Battle of McVick begin!

  • T.O. where do you go?

T.O. where do you go? terrell owens9I was momentarily jazzed about the idea of both Terrell Owens (T.O.) and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on the same team. The two largest loudmouths (albeit, Ochocinco is quite hilarious) in the league catching passes for the top AFC-North team. However, the Cincinnati Bengals didn’t sign him.

And then there was the idea of him going to the Washington Redskins, to hook up with his former, newly acquired, quarterback Donovan McNabb. However a team with one of the worst records last year wasn’t interested, either.

Terrell Owens remains a free agent. And the six-time Pro Bowl receiver is showing his frustration at being out of work.

Congratulations Saints, but I hope you have a backup quarterback ready to go.

If I was Drew, perhaps I would have said “Uhm, yeah, thanks guys.. I appreciate it. But I’ll pass. Go hit up Jared Allen, we don’t want to play the Vikings anyhow.”
