Isnt improper care of farm animals simply Egg citing? story.egg.recall.states

Rodents, piles of manure, uncaged birds and flies too numerous to count were found by investigators at Iowa farms at the heart of the recall of more than half a billion eggs, the Food and Drug Administration reported today. Inspection reports released by the FDA noted numerous violations at six farms operated by Wright County Egg and Quality Egg, which are owned by the same family, and three Hillandale Farms locations.

  • iNetflix is here!

iNetflix is here! So it’s been awhile since I’ve updated. Sue me. =)

However, I have a few updates to present, and the Netflix app for your iThing (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) is on the top of the list. Sure, I already have the app which allows me to arrange my queue, add and remove movies etc — but now I can actually watch them, too. Great for road trips, bored on a Wi-Fi enabled plane, etc.

“Apple has changed the game for mobile devices,” said Reed Hastings, Netflix co-founder and chief executive officer. “We’re excited that our members can now carry Netflix around in their pockets and instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed from Netflix right to their iPhone or iPod touch.”

  • MLB racks up another hero

MLB racks up another hero e822a0c2f902456a9f86b1438434fb22 mnUh oh, he’s in trouble. Him and Barry Bonds!

Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for allegedly lying to Congress about using steroids and growth hormone. The criminal case writes a new chapter in one of Major League Baseball’s worst scandals, the rampant use of performance enhancing drugs.

A six-count indictment alleges that Clemens obstructed a congressional inquiry with 15 different statements that he made under oath in 2008, including denials that he had ever used steroids or human growth hormone. The indictment says that he lied and committed perjury regarding the same matters.

  • Who is the greatest guitarist ever?

Who is the greatest guitarist ever? mattbellamyDN110510Currently, in the lead, is my man Matt Bellamy of Muse. And it looks like he’s going #1 all the way, with the shuffling of guitarist slots 2-15 moving around quite a bit. You can vote right here.

Behind him are the likes of Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin), Robert Smith (The Cure), Jimi Hendrix, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Brian May (Queen), Angus Young (AC/DC), John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend (The Who), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), George Harrison and John Lennon (The Beatles), Jack White (White Stripes), Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones), Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes), Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), The Edge (U2), and Robby Krieger (The Doors).

While I agree with most of that list, there are some I disagree with as well. But hey, that’s why we all get our opinion, right?

  • Scottie’s in the Hall of Fame, was his time with Jordan the best?

Scotties in the Hall of Fame, was his time with Jordan the best? nba g jordan pippen b1 576

Michael Jordan and Pippen truly were one of sports most dynamic duos, but were they the best duo of all-time? It’s tough to quantify that claim across various team sports, but they’re definitely on the leaderboard with Montana-Rice, Shaq-Kobe, Ruth-Gehrig among others.

What are the criteria for great sports duos? Longevity, championships and records are a good start. But more than the numbers, they should be two players whom opponents dreaded playing against. Two players who would drive opposing coaches crazy—if you stopped one, the other would beat you. Two players whom if you weren’t a fan of their team, you despised. So, let’s try to make a case for Jordan and Pippen by starting in their own sport and then comparing them to great duos in other sports:

  • Way to go, California. Again.

Way to go, California. Again. 539wSeriously. Can we stop over-ruling the decision and people of California for once?

A federal appeals court in San Francisco has blocked same-sex marriage in California, until it hears broader questions over the constitutionality of such marriages. The brief order from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals set aside a federal judge’s decision August 4 permitting same-sex marriages to resume.

Thanks, Glen Coffee, for leaving us 081610 Wesbrook Header

Now that 49ers runningback Glen Coffee decided to quit football a year after he started, the new rookie Anthony Dixon ran all over the Colts yesterday. But hey, we love our runningbacks. As such, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed RB Brian Westbrook to a one-year deal.

One of the most electrifying all-purpose weapons in the NFL over the last decade, Westbrook (5-10, 203) joins the 49ers after spending his first eight professional seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Drafted in the third round (91st overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, Westbrook has played in 107 games (85 starts) and has registered 5,995 yards on 1,308 carries and 37 touchdowns on the ground, to go along with 426 receptions for 3,790 yards and 29 touchdowns through the air.

  • Human marriage rights restore next week

Human marriage rights restore next week gayIf you have not heard from earlier, California stated that gay marriage will begin again August 18th.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco struck down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage last week, ruling that voter-approved Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution. Walker had issued a temporary stay on his decision, which on Thursday he said he would lift.

The high-profile case is being watched closely by supporters and opponents of same-sex marriage, as many say it is likely to make its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If it does, the case could result in a landmark decision on whether people in the United States are allowed to marry others of the same sex.

Same-sex marriage is legal in five U.S. states and in the District of Columbia, while civil unions are permitted in New Jersey. The five states are Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa and New Hampshire.

  • Meteor shower to light up skies tonight

Meteor shower to light up skies tonight tp perseid meteor cp 715370I remember this shower last year, and was gravely disappointed. However, if you’re the astronomer type, have fun!

Tonight and tomorrow night mark peak viewing for one of the most prolific and awe-inspiring annual meteor showers visible on Earth, the Perseids, which will rise from the northeast beginning around 10 p.m. This year’s Perseid meteor shower peaks on the night of Aug. 12, and should produce a display of at least 80 meteors an hour during that peak, according to NASA.

The moon is expected to set early in the evening across North America, darkening the sky for better viewing. The best viewing time in central North America is between midnight and dawn central time, reports staff at the University of Texas McDonald Observatory.

The Perseids take place each August as the Earth passes through the debris of the comet Swift-Tuttle. The dust particles light up as they pass through the Earth’s atmosphere, burning up along the way.
