• “Wrong Way Boyle” sets Avalanche ahead of Sharks 2-1 in series

Wrong Way Boyle sets Avalanche ahead of Sharks 2 1 in series 2926090Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle scored the only goal, the overtime goal, the winning goal, the most far-fetched goal of many a season on Sunday night.

In 1938, pilot Douglas Corrigan took off from Brooklyn, N.Y., headed for Los Angeles. He ended up in Dublin, Ireland.

Move over, Corrigan. Make room for Boyle. The 112th goal of his 11-year career never will be forgotten from Denver to San Jose and points beyond.

Fifty-one seconds into the extra period of the 0-0 tie between the Avs and the Sharks, San Jose’s 11-season veteran defenseman and assistant captain possessed the puck in the left circle at his own end and was routinely trying to backhand it behind the net.

However, Boyle accidentally scored the game-winning goal on his own goaltender Sunday night in Denver. He will live in notoriety as “Wrong Way Boyle.”

The Sharks thought they hit an all-time low last year, when they had the best record in the NHL and still lost in the opening round to eighth-seeded Anaheim. But if they get ousted this time around by the No. 8 Avalanche it could hurt even worse, because of the way they’ve lost the games so far.

On top of losing Sunday on the hockey equivalent of an own-goal, San Jose also dropped the opener in OT when Colorado’s Chris Stewart was credited with the game-winner when his centering pass caromed off Blake’s skate and into the goal. If there are such things as “the hockey gods”, they clearly do not like the Sharks.

  • Plastic bag bans

Plastic bag bans plastic bag switch mdWhat do you think? Are you in full support of banning plastic bags?

The Walmart near my work has been off-and-on no longer carrying plastic bags in their stores. They sell the blue fabric bags for 15 cents, or higher quality fabric for 50 cents. While I don’t necessarily mind throwing down 15-30 cents of my hard-earned cash, the fact that I am not warned about the ban somewhat irritates me. It’s not a ban in the city of Mountain View, CA mind you — it’s Walmart stores in general. Another stroke to save money, likely.

The bags however are nice, and carry more than the plastic ones do, seemingly. Plus you can re-use them to carry future groceries home, or for things such as clothes, small animals, or bombs. (kidding, by the way.. but they’re not see-through like plastic is!)

A few countries around the world—Bangladesh, China, India, Australia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Israel, South Africa and Taiwan, among others—have taken stands against plastic bags through taxing their usage or banning them outright. The environmental think tank Worldwatch Institute reports that China’s decision to ban free plastic bags in 2008 has cut demand by some 40 billion bags, reduced plastic bag usage there by 66%, and saved some 1.6 million tons of petroleum.

In March 2007, San Francisco became the first (and is still the only) major U.S. city to implement an across-the-board ban on plastic bags. Read more on the history and possible future plastic banning in California over here.

  • Live 105 BFD 2010 lineup — I can pass

Live 105 BFD 2010 lineup I can pass I have seen both Flyleaf and Silversun Pickups multiple times; I have my CD booklets signed by SSPU as well.

Unfortunately, there is no one else I would be willing to pay an overpriced concert ticket to go see. The subsonic tent lineup is weak as well.

Dear Live 105, please bring back the quality of artists from 2005 through 2008! Or even before!

See the full lineup here (concert poster style).
